Industry Mapping and Business Support for Freelance Directors
Thursday 6 August, 5.30pm - 7.30pm
Where: Zoom virtual meeting
The theatre industry – along with dance, music and live events – is in an unprecedented moment of uncertainty and change, because of the challenges posed by Covid-19.
Join freelance director Jo Tyabji for a careful, honest and tender session in which the group will:
- pool knowledge and understanding of the industry to assess how it is changing, where opportunities are contracting, and where there may be opportunities for growth (like outdoor performances, radio, interactive work)
- audit skills, share assets and create actions that will allow artists to turn towards where there is opportunity, both within the industry and looking beyond it
- deepen understanding of the business model theatre operates on in a business as usual scenario, and innovate business models that freelance theatre directors could shift towards
This is a chance to see yourself as the instigator of work; in a supportive space to think about opportunities that reframe how you engage as an artist with the wider industry.
Jo Tyabji directs new writing, devised work and plays across form and genre. She also create and perform solo work using drag and lip sync. Work includes as a creator/performer Motherland, CPT and touring, 2019; as a DIRECTOR My Name Is My Own, Southbank Centre, 2019, Surge, The Albany, 2019, What’s Far Is Near, Southbank Centre, 2019; as a STAFF DIRECTOR Julie, National Theatre, 2018; and ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, The Way of The World, Donmar Warehouse, 2018
