Collaborative Writing

In this workshop led by director and theatre maker Jesse Jones participants will explore practical techniques to build character, narrative and plot as a collective. Using exercises borrowed from other creatives and reimagined, participants will get a snapshot into a writing process that takes place largely in the rehearsal room. Please bring a pen, your imagination and be ready to be guinea pigs to see if the process can be replicated over Zoom.

Alongside this Jesse will lead a discussion exploring what it means to make collaborative devised theatre and his experience of being part of a non-hierarchical theatre company, The Wardrobe Ensemble.

Jesse Jones is a director and theatre maker from Bristol. He is an alumnus of RTYDS, on the board of trustees at Shoreditch Town Hall and a co-founder and member of multi-award-winning devising company The Wardrobe Ensemble. Most recently he co-directed The Last Of The Pelican Daughters in co-production with Complicite, Education Education Education in the West End, and 1972: The future of sex at Bristol Old Vic. Away from the company recent credits include Pippi Longstocking the musical at Royal and Derngate, Maggot Moon at the Unicorn and Caucasian chalk circle at the Tobacco factory.

 

RTYDS is currently curating the Young Vic Directors Programme. You don’t need to be a member of the Genesis Network to take part in this session, but you do need to be a professional director, designer or producer and not in full time education.
