Theatre companies are invited to apply to host Introduction to Directing and Three-Month Placements in partnership with RTYDS

On 25 February 2019, RTYDS invite applications from companies to run an Introduction to Directing course or host a Three-Month Placement.

“The placement was brilliant and has enabled me to set up my own theatre company and produce shows to a higher standard than I had done previously. I have made lots of contacts both in Liverpool and London and have been able to feel more confident in applying for assisting jobs. RTYDS mainly gave me the confidence to continue my journey as a director no matter how tough times”

Both schemes are aimed at people from communities presently under-represented in the theatre because of social, financial, ethnic, cultural, geographic or educational disadvantage or disability. Introduction to Directing is an opportunity for people (over 18 years of age) who are interested in finding out whether or not a career as a director is for them.

The Three-Month Placement is an opportunity for a new director or maker (over 18 years of age) at the very start of their professional directing/theatre making career. The new director will spend focused time with the theatre company learning about the role and skills of a theatre director.

All participants must be resident in the UK.

Hosting a director on a Three-Month Placement can be a real step-change for an emerging director or maker and Introduction to Directing encourages and nurtures those who may not have believed that a career in directing was possible for them.

The programmes provide an opportunity to change who perceives themselves to be a theatre director. RTYDS welcome applications that will create opportunities for a range of artists originating work who may not currently see themselves as a theatre director.

The deadline for applications is noon 25 March 2019.
