Friday 2 December 2016, 10.30am-4.30pm
New Perspectives, Park Lane Business Centre, Park Lane, Basford, Nottingham, NG6 0DW
The Regional Theatre Young Director Scheme (RTYDS) and New Perspectives have teamed up to offer emerging and mid-career theatre makers and directors an intensive practical day to develop, share and sharpen their directorial skills. Directors will have the unique opportunity to learn from one of London’s leading Artistic Directors Indhu Rubasingham of the Tricycle Theatre, to explore both the role of the director and of the artistic director. The day will proceed to hands-on practical work with New Perspectives’ Jack McNamara, in which each participant will work with actors to deepen their craft as directors.
The day will be ideal both for directors and for theatre makers whose work could benefit by developing a more rigorous approach to directing. The event is offered to participants free of charge with a light lunch provided.
10.30am-1.00pm – Directing tips and advice with Indhu Rubasingham
Discussion about ways of working, followed by a Q&A about running an organisation, programming, talent development and ways in to the industry.
1.00pm-1.30pm – Buffet lunch
1.30pm-4.30pm – Practical directing session led by Jack McNamara of New Perspectives
The session will look at ways of analysing scenes, exercising our visual imaginations and directing professional actors through text and improvisation.
