Regional Theatre Young Directors Scheme and Salisbury Playhouse present:
Director’s Toolkit: Working with Writers
Wednesday 27 April 2016, 10.30am-6.30pm at Salisbury Playhouse
This day long workshop is an opportunity for emerging/early career directors to discover more about the director/writer relationship in a session lead by director Lyndsey Turner. Directors will explore the process of working with a writer on a new play, from commissioning to rehearsal.
The day will cover areas such as the dramaturgical role a director undertakes when working with a writer on a new commission, exploring useful questions when reading scripts, how to give clear and concise feedback and the writer/director relationship in the rehearsal room.
The session will centre around a play text which you will need to read this in advance of the session. This will be circulated to attendees when they have signed up.
Participants will also have the opportunity to see This Land by Sian Owen at Salisbury Playhouse, a brand new commission by Pentabus and Salisbury Playhouse. Tickets will be at a reduced cost of £9. You do not have to see the show to attend the workshop.
If you are interested in attending, please email Jo Newman on with 200 words on why you would like to attend, and your experience of working with writers. It would also be good to know specific questions you would like addressed in the workshop.
Please let us know you are interested by midday on Monday 11 April 2016.
This event is specifically aimed at directors who are presently planning to direct a new piece of writing in the next six months to a year. It is also aimed at directors based and working in the south west of England.
There will be lots of opportunities to ask questions so please come prepared to contribute.
If you have any access needs please let us know.
